Description
Guest Speaker:
Dr. Yvonne Spicer
Mayor, City of Framingham
You will be inspired and engaged by Framingham Mayor Yvonne Spicer as our special guest speaker of our March membership networking breakfast. She will share her personal story and life experiences that helped shape who she is that propelled her toward unanticipated leadership roles.
Dr. Yvonne Spicer has led a life without limits. In 2018, she made history twice in Framingham as the city?s first mayor and the first African American woman to be elected mayor by voters in Massachusetts. Her motivation for running for office was to contribute to the community and ?to do something no one has done before?.
This is not the first time Spicer has been a first in a role. Prior to being elected Mayor of Framingham, she was the vice president of advocacy and educational partnerships at the Museum of Science. At the time, it was a brand-new position in a brand-new division of the museum. While there, Mayor Spicer was known for building partnerships in STEM education with policymakers, school districts, municipalities, business and other non-profit organizations. Prior to that, she was an administrator in both the Framingham and Newton public schools, after beginning her career as a teacher in Framingham.
