Master Your Nervous System: Unlock the Power of Your Parasympathetic Response for Calm, Wellness, and Thriving.
Description:
Join us for an interactive discussion on how to take control of your body’s stress response by understanding and activating your parasympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system controls the fight, flight, or freeze response to stress. When constantly activated, it floods the brain and body with chemicals signaling danger, leading to mind-body dysregulation and disease. In contrast, the parasympathetic nervous system promotes calm, rest, and digestion, signaling safety and security. Activating the parasympathetic system when appropriate can support mind-body regulation and well-being. We will explore the science behind these opposing yet essential systems and learn how to use simple techniques to balance them for optimal health.

Presenter: Dr. Beth Biggee, MD, ABIM. ABOIN, ACLM
Synergy Wellness Center in Hudson, a board-certified Integrative and Lifestyle Medicine practitioner
Dr. Biggee has been a physician of excellence in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology for over a decade, serving the Greater Merrimack Valley. Her commitment to holistic care reached its pinnacle in 2019 when she delved into the study and practice of mind-body-spirit and lifestyle medicine.
Completing her residency in Internal Medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital and her fellowship in Rheumatology at Tufts Medical Center laid the groundwork for her holistic career. Yet, it was her fellowship with Andrew Weil's Integrative Medicine Program at the University of Arizona that ignited her passion for a more comprehensive approach to healing. Dr. Biggee's pursuit of knowledge didn't stop there; she further enriched her expertise by completing the Lifestyle Medicine Program, as well as Andrew Weil's Ayurvedic and Aloha Ayurvedic programs. Her dedication culminated in triple board certifications in Rheumatology, Integrative, and Lifestyle Medicine.
Additionally, she studied other mind body techniques, including a potent neurofeedback technique called HeartMath, with a certificate in Anxiety, Stress, and Self-Regulation. She is also a Holy Fire Usui Reiki practitioner and has completed the Comprehensive Auricular Acupuncture program from the Helms Medical Institute.
Dr. Biggee sees her role as a guide to assist individuals on their healthcare journey, bridging the gap between conventional medicine and complementary holistic approaches. Leveraging her extensive training and utilizing the pillars of health, she empowers individuals to achieve optimal health, offering expertise in Ayurvedic nutrition, herbal therapies, sleep optimization, circadian rhythm management, and stress reduction techniques.
With a foundation in traditional Rheumatology, she has special interests in autoimmune, inflammatory, gut health, and musculoskeletal issues. However, she recognizes the interconnectedness of the whole person and adopts a human-centered lifestyle medicine approach rather than focusing solely on diseases.
