Women Breaking Boundaries: The New Normal
Women have been breaking down barriers for decades to be in the career fields they want to have. Although more progress needs to be made in traditionally male-dominated industries, there are great stories and lessons learned from women who have taken on the challenge. Joining us this month for a panel discussion are women working in male-dominated fields who are following their passions, blazing ahead at full speed, and showing no signs of stopping.
Speakers include:
Jody Staruk, Project Executive at Consigli Construction Company (9,9% of the construction industry are women in the U.S.)
Jody joined Consigli in 2003 as a project engineer and has managed projects spanning public to private, small to large, fast-track to multi-year and complex renovations to new buildings. She was the first female Project Executive at Consigli, and currently leads the first all-women construction management team (https://www.consigli.com/ywca-central-massachusetts-begins-construction-on-historic-24-million-building-renovation/).
Lea Caldwell, Worcester Firefighter (3.5% of firefighters in the U.S. are women)
Lea is one of just 10 women on the Worcester Fire Department. She joined the department in 2017, and in 2019 helped rescue three people from a third-story window during a three-alarm fire. She was awarded a Medal of Valor from Governor Baker for her life saving efforts. Click on the Youtube link to watch the fire rescue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPihbO1Ayt0
Moderator: Cherie Comeau, Sr. Manager, Leadership & Organizational Development, for Consigli Construction and BFF Steering Committee Member
Cherie has worked in training and development for over 12 years and joined Consigli in 2018. She manages training initiatives across all Consigli regional offices, facilitates leadership programming, and partners with executives to align development efforts with strategic priorities. Cherie is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership from Northeastern University.
